COVID-19 introduced a new way of life for many, but for Steve Hudman, the new vice-president of NCK Tech Hays Campus, it was the start of a truly new experience. Hudman literally started his new position on the Hays Campus just days after the college closed for COVID-19.

Steve Hudman has over thirteen years’ experience in higher education in a variety of leadership and management roles.  He served as the Dean of Student Affairs and Chief Student Affairs Officer for Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas and led the college through the creation and implementation of an aggressive strategic plan.  He was instrumental in the continued accreditation from the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges. Other key areas of involvement included the celebration of Angelina College’s 50th Anniversary celebration; developed strong student-centered process increasing access and enrollment efficiency for all student population; support design and construction projects including the Campus Police Department, one-stop student services center, on-campus coffee shop and commons area. Hudman implemented a new student management system and website, design and development of the college mobile app and spearheaded the addition of the NJCAA sanctioned men’s and women’s soccer program.

Prior to Angelina College, Hudman served as the Dean of Student Life and Athletic Director for Cisco College in Cisco, Texas. He was responsible for improving overall student experience on both campuses in Cisco and Abilene, Texas. Responsibilities at Cisco College included improving residence life by managing four residence hall renovation projects; development of a student union building improvement project; increasing student satisfaction with cafeteria services; managed an update in the on-campus recreation facilities; developed a progressive student judicial policy and consistently held student retention rates well above the national 2-year institutional average.

Hudman received his bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University and a master’s degree from Hardin-Simmons University. He is a West Texas native and has been married to his wife, Kelly for twenty-five years. Hudman and his wife have four children ages 13, 18, 20 and 23. He participates in civic boards and commissions including the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau, Angelina Beautiful Clean, Lufkin Rotary and the City of Cisco City Council. Hardman and his family are active in youth coaching, local sporting events, fine arts and other extra-curricular events in support of the family and community.

As the next Vice-President of NCK Tech – Hays Campus, Hudman is excited about the challenges and opportunity working with the students, faculty and staff and collaboration with the Hays community and NCK Tech service area.
