Director of Nursing

Purpose: 
Responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing Education required
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in Kansas or eligible for licensure
  • Three years of clinical nursing experience, previous teaching experience, and administrative or
    curriculum experience preferred
  • Must meet employment requirements of parent institution regarding health, certification, and
    interest
  • Supervisory skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to help students succeed
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills with a student-first attitude
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member
  • Employment is dependent on pre-employment background screening
    Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear,
    and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer
    work
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • May require some travel
  • Indoors, environmentally controlled
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Occasional stress due to deadlines and/or dealing with unpleasant or angry people

Job Duties:

Essential Functions:

  •  Regular attendance and timeliness
  • Responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing program
  • Directly supervises/evaluates Practical Nursing Instructors
  • Stays aware of up to date nursing trends and skills
  • Monitor pre-entrance testing and admissions of students
  • Coordinate Advisory Committee activities
  • Represent the nursing program to Kansas State Board of Nursing
  • Serves as Department Chair
  • Review and revise nursing student & faculty handbook yearly
  • Participate in selection, progression and retention of students
  • Initiate and evaluate contracts for utilization of clinical resources for learning experiences
  • Participate in formulation of the department budget and utilization of funds
  • Monitor clinical rotation schedules
  • Retain official grade and attendance documentation
  • Coordinate state board applications
  • Coordinate nurse pinning ceremony
  • Prepare and maintain nursing program records and reports of accrediting agencies
  • Coordinate spring nursing job fair
  • Review relevant areas of the website and recommend changes to your supervisor

  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction or the President
