We’ve just completed the 2013-2014 academic year and added the graduating class to our Alumni Association!
NCK Tech conferred certificates and degrees to 326 students during the May, 2014 Commencement ceremonies. Graduation exercises were held on the Beloit campus on Friday, May 16th and on the Hays campus on Saturday, May 17th. Brian Jones, a 1982 graduate of NCK Tech, provided the Beloit commencement address. 204 students earned certificates and 122 students were awarded Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degrees. In addition, twelve Veterans received the Honorary Veteran’s Degree. This degree honors those service men and women who, upon leaving the armed forces, returned home and immediately joined the workforce. By awarding the Honorary Degree, NCK Tech acknowledges those veterans for their military service, their technical skills, and their lifetime contribution to our nation’s workforce. Nominations for this degree are accepted throughout the year. For further details and nomination forms, please Contact Us.
Where Are They Now?
Our graduates experience excellent employment opportunities and this section features Alumni accomplishments. Upon graduation from the NCK Tech Telecommunications program in May of 2008, Joe Harris accepted a Network Technician job in Dodge City, KS with United Telephone Association Inc. United Telephone was a small company with about 3000 access lines. However, they also owned United Wireless, a wireless company with approximately 16,000 cellular subscribers throughout southwest Kansas. This job allowed Joe to utilize many of the skills he acquired while completing the Telecommunications program. His first job duties involved installing and maintaining various access technologies including ADSL2+, DOCSIS 2.0, and various wireless technologies including WipLL and WiMAX 802.16d. He eventually progressed to an engineering position, engineering the data for the customer access layer and managing the rollout of the company’s Calix C7 data platform. During his employment, he obtained several certifications, including the Network +, Signamax certified cabling technician, and the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate). A transfer to United Wireless, as a Wireless Switch Engineer, provided the opportunity to manage the deployment of a CDMA/EVDO Huawei core and an LTE network throughout southwest Kansas, which provided superior wireless LTE internet to their subscriber base. Joe met his wife Rachel in Dodge City and is the proud father of a 2 year old daughter named Olivia. Joe is currently a Systems Administrator at Tri-County Telephone in Council Grove and spends most of his time engineering Ethernet circuits and maintaining a Cable TV multicast. Joe also serves as on Telecommunications Advisory Board for NCK Tech. Congrats, Joe, on a very successful career!
